Nick Fuentes is an American political commentator, livestreamer and activist who became prominent in online right-wing politics during the late 2010s. He is closely associated with the America First movement and the online community commonly called the Groypers. His public profile has grown through livestreaming, political organizing, appearances at rallies and conferences, and relationships with figures in the wider American right.

Fuentes is also one of the most controversial figures in contemporary American online politics. Organizations including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) use extremist and white-nationalist terminology to describe his politics and public activity. Fuentes has disputed or rejected some of those descriptions. This article therefore separates documented events, Fuentes's own descriptions and outside organizations' characterizations rather than treating contested labels as self-evident facts.

1. Who Is Nick Fuentes?

Nick Fuentes is an American political livestreamer and activist. His public career developed around online broadcasting rather than conventional elected office. He became especially visible among younger internet-based political audiences through his show America First, political livestreams and activism.

According to the SPLC, Fuentes began livestreaming while a freshman at Boston University and started hosting America First on the Trump-aligned Right Side Broadcasting Network in 2017. The ADL likewise identifies 2017 as the year in which Fuentes first gained widespread notoriety.

His political activity later expanded beyond commentary. Fuentes became associated with the Groyper movement, organized the America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC), participated in political demonstrations and built alternative online infrastructure after losing access to major platforms.

The wording matters. Calling someone Mexican-American or saying they have Mexican ancestry is not the same as saying that they are a Mexican citizen. Fuentes was born in the United States and is an American.

Fuentes himself has discussed his Mexican background in interviews, including while responding to questions about the relationship between his ancestry and the racial identity politics that form part of his public ideology. In one interview he explicitly acknowledged that people ask him about his Mexican surname and ancestry.

The House Select Committee investigating January 6 included testimony and documentary material concerning Fuentes and the America First network. SPLC also submitted a detailed statement to the committee about Fuentes and America First.

Descriptions of his precise role should be distinguished from broader descriptions of the January 6 attack itself. Being present at political demonstrations, speaking to a crowd and entering the Capitol are separate factual questions and should not be collapsed into one claim.

AFPAC stands for the America First Political Action Conference. Fuentes founded the conference as an alternative political gathering held around the same period as CPAC.

The event attracted attention because some Republican politicians and political figures appeared at AFPAC events, creating controversy over interaction between elected officials and Fuentes's movement.
